Regions. Table Code | Name | AZs | Geography | Opt-in status → code, name, availabilityZones (e.g. us-east-1 = 6,
ap-northeast-1 = 4, "3 †" → 3), country from Geography, externalIds.opt_in. State from the AZ page
("Virginia, United States of America"). Spot checks: us-east-1 → US East (N. Virginia), 6 AZs, Northern Virginia /
Virginia / US (precision metro); ap-southeast-2 → Sydney AU, 3 AZs; eu-central-1 → Frankfurt DE, 3 AZs.
Local Zones. Grouped on Network Border Group (one region entity per group, e.g. us-east-1-bos-1), zone count =
availabilityZones, externalIds = { kind: "local_zone", aws_parent_region, aws_zone_names, aws_zone_ids }, name
suffixed "(Local Zone)". NYC zones are filed by AWS under New Jersey (kept as regionName).
Geo gaps (by design). Regions whose published place is a state or a country only — Ohio, N. California, Oregon,
Canada (Central), Ireland, Spain, Malaysia, Thailand, New Zealand, Mexico (Central), Bahrain, UAE — get country/state
but no coordinates (we do not drop markers on state or country centroids). 12/34 regions; all have countryIso2.
No launch dates are published in the docs tables (launchedOn null).
Not used. aws.amazon.com/about-aws/global-infrastructure/regions_az/ (JS/embedded card data, 416 KB),
api.regional-table.region-services.aws.a2z.com/index.json (service × region only, no names/geography).
aws-news (What's New + About Amazon)
Feeds aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/recent/feed/ (100 items) and www.aboutamazon.com/news/rss (10 items).
The What's New feed is ~95 % "service X now available in Region Y": those are excluded on the feed title
(now available in … Region, Atlassian "* Data Center" products, consumer brands); kept: new/announced Regions,
Local Zones, Outposts, Wavelength, sovereign cloud, MW/GW, "$N billion" investments. press.aboutamazon.com no longer
offers RSS (404). Live 2026-09-11: 2/110 items matched → 1 news_event ("second-generation single-rack AWS Outposts"),
0 rejected, 0 credits. Daily.
