# WP19 — Style audit of the UQO Working Paper series (Phase 0) Date: 2026-10-20. Sources inspected **locally**: the 17 compiled papers in `~/Desktop/Recherche-UQO/{immobilier,finance}/*/paper/` (`main.tex`, `sections/`, `appendix/`, `tables/`, `references.bib`, `main.pdf`), the WP18 skeleton (same day, no PDF yet), the template `_modele-working-paper/`, and the series standard `HARMONISATION.md` (2026-10-17) with `REVISION-PROTOCOLE.md`. Detailed reading: WP2 (decoding-real-estate-descriptions), WP5 (airbnb-rents-housing-pressure), WP8 (polymarket-arrow-debreu, the only WP with theorem environments), WP10 (assessment-gap-quebec), WP16 (sales-comparison-validation), WP18 skeleton. The other papers were inspected by `grep` (preamble, `\WP…` metadata, floats, bibliography style, page counts via `mdls`). Remote check: `https://git.spboucher.ai/raw/wp2_uqo/main/paper/main.pdf` → HTTP 200 (pattern works); `wp18_uqo` → 404 (no PDF yet). The local copies are the primary source; nothing inaccessible was relied upon. ## 1. Facts verified by grep over the 17 `main.tex` files (2026-10-20) | Item | Observation | |---|---| | Document class | `\documentclass[12pt,letterpaper]{article}` in 17/17 | | Bibliography | `natbib[authoryear, round, semicolon]`; `\bibliographystyle{aer}` in 15/17 (WP2, WP7: no explicit style in `main.tex`) | | Date macro | `\WPdate{October 2026}` in 17/17 (never `\today`) | | Theorem environments | only WP8: `\newtheorem{proposition}{Proposition}`, `{definition}`, `{hypothesis}` (amsthm default `plain`, global numbering) | | Page counts (PDF) | 39–82 pages, median ≈ 50 | | Bibliography size | 46–125 entries (median ≈ 66) | | Number macros | WP16 `\input{tables/numbers}` → `\newcommand{\nSalesRaw}{456,950}` generated by a script | | Floats | `\begin{table}[H]`, `\centering`, `\caption{…}` before the tabular, `\label{tab:…}`, `\small`; figures `\includegraphics[width=\textwidth]{fN_slug.pdf}` (vector PDF) | | Appendix | `\usepackage[toc,page]{appendix}` + `\begin{appendices} … \end{appendices}` (WP8, WP16); `\appendix` (WP10) | ## 2. Title page, numbering, metadata - `paper/sections/titlepage.tex` = exact copy of `_modele-working-paper/sections/titlepage.tex` (logo 3.5 cm; "Université du Québec en Outaouais / Département des sciences administratives" in `\footnotesize\textsc`; "Working Paper No.~\WPnumber"; title `\LARGE\bfseries`; optional subtitle `\large\itshape`; author `\large`; affiliation, `\href{mailto:}` e-mail, address; date "Month YYYY"; "Version x.y"; page 2 = rule, **Abstract**, **Keywords:**, **JEL Classification:**, rule; `\thispagestyle{empty}` on both pages). - WP19 uses `\WPnumber{19}` (HARMONISATION §1: one number = one paper, 1–18 taken; WP18 = housing-leverage-intergenerational-inequality). spbgit repository `wp19_uqo.git` (to be created when the gateway is reachable). - Mandatory macros in `main.tex`: `\WPnumber`, `\WPtitle`, `\WPsubtitle`, `\WPdate`, `\WPversion`, `\WPabstract`, `\WPkeywords`, `\WPjel`, `\WPauthor`, `\WPaffiliation`, `\WPemail`, `\WPaddress`. Affiliation / e-mail / address are the template strings and are **not** modified: `Département des sciences administratives\\ Université du Québec en Outaouais`, `simon-pierre.boucher@uqo.ca`, `Gatineau -- Pavillon Alexandre-Taché\\ 283, boulevard Alexandre-Taché\\ Gatineau, Québec, Canada J9A 1L8`. Single author `Simon-Pierre Boucher`. No acknowledgments, grants or co-authors appear in any single-author WP; none will be invented for WP19. - `\WPdate{October 2026}`, `\WPversion{1.0}`, 5–8 keywords in lower case except proper nouns, JEL codes separated by commas. ## 3. Preamble and typography (common to the series) `inputenc utf8`, `fontenc T1`, `babel english`; `geometry` 1 in margins; `mathptmx` + `microtype`; `setspace` `\onehalfspacing`; `amsmath, amssymb, amsthm`; `booktabs, tabularx, multirow, threeparttable, siunitx`; `graphicx, subcaption, float`; `xcolor[dvipsnames]` + `hyperref` (colorlinks NavyBlue); `caption` (small, bold label, period separator, justified); `fancyhdr` (centred page number, no rule); `titlesec` (`\section` = `\large\bfseries` "1.", `\subsection` = `\normalsize\bfseries`, `\subsubsection` = `\normalsize\itshape`); `appendix[toc, page]`; `enumitem` nosep. WP19 keeps the template preamble verbatim and only adds theorem environments and `\graphicspath`. ## 4. Abstract, keywords, JEL Single-paragraph abstract of 150–250 words on page 2, real results only (REVISION-PROTOCOLE: no "novel", "comprehensive", "first"). JEL codes observed in the real-estate papers: R21, R31, R32, R51, R52, H22, H71, C21. WP19 candidates (brief): R31, R21, D83, G12, G51 — D83 (search; learning; information) and R31 (housing supply and markets) are clearly relevant; G12 (asset pricing) and G51 (household finance: housing) are kept only if the financing extension survives; C63 (computational techniques) is added for the numerical part. Final choice recorded in `research/results_audit.md`. ## 5. Section structure Observed: separate files in `paper/sections/` (`introduction.tex`, `literature.tex`, `data.tex`, `methodology.tex`, `results.tex`, `robustness.tex`, `discussion.tex`, `conclusion.tex`; WP5/WP15 use numeric prefixes). English headings ("Introduction", "Related literature"/"Literature review", "Methodology", "Results", "Robustness", "Discussion" with "Mechanisms"/"Policy implications"/"Limitations", "Conclusion"). WP8 inserts `theoretical.tex` ("Theoretical framework"). **WP19 adaptation (theoretical paper, no data section)** — files: `introduction.tex`, `literature.tex`, `benchmark.tex` (institutional intuition and frictionless benchmark), `model.tex` (environment, value functions, bargaining, equilibrium), `propositions.tex`, `numerical.tex` (algorithm, parameterisation, verification), `baseline.tex`, `counterfactuals.tex` (arrival, financing, bargaining, matching, entry, heterogeneity, dynamics, selection, posted prices, sensitivity), `welfare.tex`, `conclusion.tex` (limitations, falsifiable predictions). Academic prose without bullet lists in the body; numbered, cross-referenced equations (`\eqref`); labels `sec:`, `eq:`, `fig:`, `tab:`, `prop:`, `lem:`, `cor:`, `ass:`, `def:`, `rem:`. ## 6. Figures and tables - Figures: `\begin{figure}[H]`, `\centering`, `\includegraphics[width=\textwidth]{figNN_slug.pdf}`, descriptive caption of 1–3 sentences after the graphic (stating what is simulated and that the objects are model-generated), `\label{fig:…}`. Vector PDF in `paper/figures/`; PNG copies for the README. Generated by `src/plotting.py` from `results/processed/*.csv`, never drawn by hand. - Tables: `\begin{table}[H]`, `\centering`, `\caption` before, `\label`, `\small`/`\footnotesize`, body `\input{tables/}` generated by `src/tables.py` (`tabular` + booktabs, no vertical rules), notes via `threeparttable`/`tablenotes`. Wide tables through `\resizebox{\textwidth}{!}{…}`. No hand-typed table. - Numbers in the prose: `paper/tables/numbers.tex` with `\newcommand` macros generated from the result files (WP16 mechanism), so that each number quoted in the text is traceable to `results/`. - Protected commas in titles: `140{,}931`. ## 7. Theorem environments (new for WP19, consistent with WP8 and the amsthm/Times template) ```latex \theoremstyle{plain} \newtheorem{proposition}{Proposition} \newtheorem{lemma}{Lemma} \newtheorem{corollary}{Corollary} \theoremstyle{definition} \newtheorem{assumption}{Assumption} \newtheorem{definition}{Definition} \theoremstyle{remark} \newtheorem{remark}{Remark} \newtheorem{conjecture}{Conjecture} ``` Global numbering as in WP8; titles in brackets; proofs in amsthm `proof` environments inside `paper/appendix/appendix_proofs.tex` (`\begin{proof}[Proof of Proposition~\ref{prop:…}]`). Numerical findings are never placed in theorem environments: they are stated in prose as "Result N" or, when unproved but systematic, as a `conjecture`. ## 8. Citations and bibliography `\citet{}` for textual, `\citep{}` for parenthetical citations; never `\cite{}`. Keys `authorYYYYkeyword` (first author, year, first significant title word), DOI in every entry that has one, `url` only for working papers/books without DOI, `note` for WP series. REVISION-PROTOCOLE: **zero unverified reference**; verification evidence stored as raw Crossref JSON in `research/verification/` and listed in `research/literature_matrix.csv` (`verified_via`). `aer.bst` requires a `references.bib` without a leading `%` comment line (gotcha recorded in the series memory). `\newpage \bibliography{references}` before the appendices. ## 9. Appendices `\begin{appendices}` with `\input{appendix/appendix_proofs}` (proofs), `\input{appendix/appendix_computation}` (algorithms, tolerances, convergence diagnostics), `\input{appendix/appendix_extra}` (additional tables and figures). Appendix equations numbered continuously. ## 10. Compilation `paper/Makefile` (`latexmk`, `clean`, `distclean`) + `.latexmkrc` from the template (`pdf_mode=1`, `pdflatex -interaction=nonstopmode -halt-on-error -synctex=1`, `bibtex_use=2`). Acceptance (HARMONISATION §6): `cd paper && make` with no `!`, no undefined citation or reference; page 1 shows "Working Paper No. 19", title, author, "October 2026", "Version 1.0"; page 2 shows Abstract / Keywords / JEL. Root `Makefile`: `make test`, `make simulate`, `make figures`, `make tables`, `make paper`, `make all`. ## 11. Deviations from the standard (to be reported in README "Notes") 1. Theoretical paper: no "Data" section; `numerical.tex` replaces it. 2. Extended amsthm environments relative to WP8. 3. `scripts/NN_*.py` pipeline replaced by `src/*.py` modules + `Makefile` + `config/*.yaml` (brief requirement). 4. Additional `research/` directory (literature matrix, novelty audit, proofs, validation, results audit) kept in git.
