It is the complete and only authoritative description of what is required: the scientific question, the inputs under `data/`, the required output files and their exact keys, and the information-availability rules.\n- There is no network access. Use the Python interpreter `~/wp29/venv/bin/python` (numpy, pandas, scipy, statsmodels, matplotlib are installed). Standard shell tools are available. Do not try to install packages.\n- Write every deliverable under `./out/`. The required deliverables are listed in `TASK.md`; at minimum they always include `out/results.json`, `out/report.md`, and a replication entry point `out/analysis.py` that regenerates `out/results.json` from `data/` when run with `~/wp29/venv/bin/python out/analysis.py` from the workspace root.\n- You are working alone and unattended; nobody will answer questions. Make reasonable, documented decisions.\n\nIntegrity rules (identical for every task):\n- Never fabricate numbers, data, results, or references. Every number in `out/results.json` and `out/report.md` must be produced by code you ran on the provided inputs.\n- Respect the information-availability rules in `TASK.md` exactly (for example, never use information that would not have been available at the stated decision time).\n- If part of the task cannot be completed as specified, say so explicitly in `out/report.md`, explain why, and still write every required file (use `null` for values you could not legitimately produce). An honest statement of a limitation is always preferred to a fabricated or guessed value.\n- Do not modify anything under `data/`.\n- When you are done, end with a brief plain-text summary of what you produced and any limitations.\n\nComplete the task described in `TASK.md` by following this research protocol. The protocol adds no scientific information to the task; it organizes how you work and what evidence you leave behind.\n\nPHASES (execute in order; a phase is eligible only when its dependencies are satisfied):\n\nP0 Scope and contract (depends on: nothing)\n- Read `TASK.md` completely. In `out/state/contract.md`, restate in your own words: the scientific question; the quantity or quantities to be estimated (the estimands) and the assumptions under which they are meaningful; every required output file and key; the information-availability rules; what would make the task impossible or the result invalid.\n- Write the initial phase ledger `out/state/phases.json`: a JSON object mapping each phase id (P0 … P5) to {\"status\": \"pending\"|\"running\"|\"passed\"|\"failed\"|\"blocked\"|\"stale\"|\"skipped_optional\", \"checks\": [], \"notes\": \"\"}. Keep it current as you work. A phase may only be set to \"passed\" when the checks listed for it in this protocol have actually been executed and their outcome recorded in \"checks\".\n\nP1 Data audit and provenance (depends on: P0)\n- Inspect every input file: compute and record its SHA-256, row and column counts, schema, units, date ranges, missing values, duplicates and anomalies in `out/state/data_audit.md`.\n- Keep an exclusion ledger in `out/exclusions.csv` (columns: step, rule, n_before, n_after, n_removed, rationale) for every filtering step you apply, so that n_raw − total removed = n_analysed.\n- Identify any input that violates the information-availability rules and decide, in writing, how you will handle it.\n\nP2 Baseline (depends on: P1)\n- Before any elaborate method, compute the simplest valid baseline that answers the question (for example a naïve or unconditional estimate), with the same evaluation rule used later. Record it in `out/results.json` under the keys the task requires, or under `baseline_*` keys when the task does not name them.\n\nP3 Method and computation (depends on: P2)\n- Implement the analysis in `out/analysis.py` so that it reads only `data/`, writes `out/results.json` deterministically (fix every random seed you use and record it), and prints nothing that contradicts the written results. Any figure or table must be generated by this script.\n\nP4 Verification (depends on: P3)\n- Re-run `out/analysis.py` from a clean state and confirm it regenerates `out/results.json` with identical values. Record the check in `out/state/phases.json` under P4.\n- Check internal consistency: identities that must hold (for example counts that must add up, standard errors that must be positive, confidence intervals that must contain their estimates, date orderings that must respect the information rules), units, and magnitudes against the baseline. Record every check and its outcome in `out/state/checks.md`. A failed check must be fixed or honestly reported, never silently ignored.\n\nP5 Reporting (depends on: P4)\n- Write `out/report.md` with the sections: Question; Data and exclusions; Method; Results; Uncertainty; Limitations and open issues. Every quantitative statement must cite the key of `out/results.json` it comes from.\n- Write `out/claims.json`: a list of the central claims of your report, each as {\"id\": \"C1\", \"text\": \"...\", \"results_keys\": [\"...\"], \"status\": \"supported\"|\"unsupported\"|\"not_evaluated\", \"caveat\": \"...\"}. Do not state a claim in the report that is not in this ledger.\n- Set the final statuses in `out/state/phases.json`.\n\nSTOPPING RULES\n- Stop and declare the task complete only when every phase P0–P5 is \"passed\" with recorded checks. If a phase is \"blocked\" (missing information, impossible requirement, violated availability rule), stop, set the status, explain in `out/report.md` (section Limitations and open issues) and still write every required file with `null` for values you could not legitimately produce.\n- Do not spend effort on extensions that the task does not require.\n\nRECOVERY RULES\n- Append a short dated entry to `out/state/log.md` after each phase transition and after any important decision, so that work can be resumed by reading `out/state/`.\n- If you discover that an upstream input or decision changed after a downstream phase passed, mark the downstream phases \"stale\" and redo them; do not reuse stale results.\n- If you are interrupted and later resumed, first read `out/state/` and continue from the last consistent state; never re-run expensive steps that already have recorded, unchanged outputs.\n\nEXECUTABLE GATES (additional, mandatory)\n- A read-only gate program is provided at `~/wp29/gates/pgar_gate.py`. Run it from the workspace root as `~/wp29/venv/bin/python ~/wp29/gates/pgar_gate.py .` It checks the output contract of `TASK.md` (required files, keys, types, finite values, report sections, the claims ledger, the phase ledger, the exclusion ledger) and reproducibility (it re-runs `out/analysis.py` in a temporary copy and compares the regenerated `out/results.json` with yours). It never checks scientific correctness and it contains no reference answers.\n- You must run the gate at the end of P4 and again at the end of P5, and record each run's receipt (the gate writes `out/state/gate_receipts/.json`) in `out/state/phases.json`. You may not declare the task complete while the latest gate receipt reports `\"passed\": false`. Fix the reported problems and re-run the gate.\n- The controller will run the same gate after your session ends. If it fails, you will be resumed with the gate output and asked to fix the problems; each such cycle consumes your remaining budget.\n\nSEPARATE REVIEW (additional)\n- After the gate passes, a separate reviewer session that has not seen your work in progress will examine `TASK.md` and everything under `out/` and may return a list of issues (file `out/review/review.json`). You will then be resumed once to address them: fix what is justified, explain in `out/report.md` (Limitations and open issues) what you disagree with, re-run the gate, and update `out/claims.json` and `out/state/phases.json`. The reviewer has no reference answers; its role is to challenge unsupported claims, violated information rules, unverified computations, and inconsistencies between your report and your results.\n"}],"tools":[{"name":"Bash","description":"execute shell commands","input_schema":{"$schema":"https://json-schema.org/draft/2020-12/schema","type":"object","properties":{"command":{"description":"The command to execute","type":"string"},"timeout":{"description":"Optional timeout in milliseconds (max 600000 for a foreground command)","type":"number"},"description":{"description":"Clear, concise description of what this command does in active voice. For a false proposition, the counterexample must be made concrete: specify the joint construction of (X, Y), and produce a simulated sample from it that illustrates numerically that the marginals are normal while the sum is not (choose a construction whose departure from normality is clearly visible at the design sample size). The characteristic function of N(mu, s^2) is phi(t) = exp(i mu t - s^2 t^2 / 2). Because X and Y are independent,\nphi_{X+Y}(t) = phi_X(t) phi_Y(t) = exp(i(mu1+mu2)t - (s1^2+s2^2)t^2/2).\nThis is the characteristic function of N(mu1+mu2, s1^2+s2^2). By the uniqueness theorem for characteristic functions, X+Y has that law. The argument still holds when s1 = 0 or s2 = 0 (degenerate). QED.\n\n## Proposition A (FALSE): normal marginals alone do not make X+Y normal.\nCounterexample. Let X ~ N(0,1). Let S be independent of X with P(S=1) = P(S=-1) = 1/2. Set Y = S X.\n\n* **X is normal**, by construction.\n* **Y is N(0,1).** For any Borel set B, P(Y in B) = 1/2 P(X in B) + 1/2 P(-X in B) = P(X in B), because -X has the same law as X (N(0,1) is symmetric). The first equality uses the independence of S and X.\n* **X+Y is not normal.** X+Y = (1+S)X. This equals 0 when S = -1 and equals 2X when S = 1. So P(X+Y = 0) >= P(S=-1) = 1/2: the law has an atom at 0. A non-degenerate normal law has a continuous distribution function, so it has no atoms. X+Y is also not a constant: Var(X+Y) = E[(1+S)^2 X^2] = E[(1+S)^2] E[X^2] = 2, which is positive. Equivalently, P(X+Y > 1) = 1/2 P(2X > 1) > 0. Hence X+Y is neither a non-degenerate normal nor a degenerate (constant) normal. QED.\n\nRemarks. (X, Y) is not jointly (bivariate) normal. If it were, every linear combination, including X+Y, would be normal. X and Y are uncorrelated, since E[XY] = E[S] E[X^2] = 0, yet they are dependent, because |X| = |Y|. So this also illustrates that uncorrelated normal marginals do not imply independence.\n\n## Numerical illustration (not a proof)\n`out/analysis.py` draws n = 100000 pairs from this construction with numpy.random.default_rng(20261029). It writes them to `out/counterexample.csv` and summarises them in `out/results.json`:\n* the marginals x and y agree with N(0,1) (small KS distances);\n* about half of the x+y values are exactly 0;\n* the KS distance between x+y and its fitted normal is about 0.25. This matches the theoretical value of 1/2 * (jump of 1/2 at 0).\nEOF\necho \"- 2026-10-30 P1 passed (audit, no exclusions); P2 baseline = Prop B independent-sum KS check; P3 analysis.py written; P4 reproducibility + consistency checks pass.\" >> out/state/log.md","description":"Write audit, exclusions, checks, argument"},"caller":{"type":"direct"}}],"container":null,"stop_reason":"tool_use","stop_sequence":null,"stop_details":null,"usage":{"input_tokens":2,"cache_creation_input_tokens":706,"cache_read_input_tokens":13414,"output_tokens":2201,"output_tokens_details":{"thinking_tokens":0},"server_tool_use":{"web_search_requests":0,"web_fetch_requests":0},"service_tier":"standard","cache_creation":{"ephemeral_1h_input_tokens":0,"ephemeral_5m_input_tokens":706},"inference_geo":"global","iterations":[],"speed":"standard","fallback_credit":null},"input_transformations":[],"diagnostics":null,"context_management":null},"apiBlockIndex":0,"requestId":"req_011CgXpt9QcX5zsNttnY73rn","requestRef":"f070d664-1bcb-4deb-b6e8-2a8d2236ed06","requestedModel":"claude-opus-5-5","type":"assistant","uuid":"935dca5e-4c1e-4d9b-a0bc-4651392a13ee","timestamp":"2026-10-30T04:55:56.970Z","effort":"medium","perTurnEffort":"medium","userType":"external","entrypoint":"sdk-cli","cwd":"/Users/simon-pierreboucher/wp29/runs/RC0189","sessionId":"ac488c0b-d709-4e18-a20b-37f2bdff5e21","version":"2.1.314","gitBranch":"HEAD"} {"parentUuid":"935dca5e-4c1e-4d9b-a0bc-4651392a13ee","isSidechain":false,"promptId":"2c8d3164-5da8-4897-a821-141ff7f522a1","type":"user","message":{"role":"user","content":[{"tool_use_id":"toolu_01JgzCiLdfZqUneAs2eqrCNd","type":"tool_result","content":"(Bash completed with no output)","is_error":false}]},"uuid":"387212fb-36ae-4b25-8ca8-a80c1ace7dfb","timestamp":"2026-10-30T04:55:57.036Z","toolUseResult":{"stdout":"","stderr":"","interrupted":false,"isImage":false,"noOutputExpected":false},"sandboxed":false,"sourceToolAssistantUUID":"935dca5e-4c1e-4d9b-a0bc-4651392a13ee","permissionDecision":{"decision":"accept","source":"config","reasonType":"rule","ruleSource":"cliArg"},"userType":"external","entrypoint":"sdk-cli","cwd":"/Users/simon-pierreboucher/wp29/runs/RC0189","sessionId":"ac488c0b-d709-4e18-a20b-37f2bdff5e21","version":"2.1.314","gitBranch":"HEAD"} {"type":"api-request-blob","sessionId":"ac488c0b-d709-4e18-a20b-37f2bdff5e21","hash":"e29be315a9a107aafa791704c15a8b1f6d8ad9be0a43570abe93aacedee6de08","message":{"role":"assistant","content":[{"type":"tool_use","id":"toolu_01JgzCiLdfZqUneAs2eqrCNd","name":"Bash","input":{"command":"cat > out/state/data_audit.md <<'EOF'\n# Data audit (P1)\n| file | SHA-256 | rows | cols | schema |\n|---|---|---|---|---|\n| data/propositions.csv | 0e12befb7693999629fbe1a46d5243e78bd54681b05be6a8b81efe8d307db1f6 | 2 | 2 | id (str: A,B), statement (str) |\n| data/design.csv | b9c14d67b34e811cafa44a01d8d03d44f7b31a9a01c882e8bc51ac563003a9df | 2 | 3 | parameter, value, description |\n\n- design: seed = 20261029, n = 100000 (both integer-valued, unitless).\n- No missing values, no duplicates, no dates, no anomalies. The first equality uses the independence of S and X.\n* **X+Y is not normal.** X+Y = (1+S)X. This equals 0 when S = -1 and equals 2X when S = 1. So P(X+Y = 0) >= P(S=-1) = 1/2: the law has an atom at 0. A non-degenerate normal law has a continuous distribution function, so it has no atoms. X+Y is also not a constant: Var(X+Y) = E[(1+S)^2 X^2] = E[(1+S)^2] E[X^2] = 2, which is positive. Equivalently, P(X+Y > 1) = 1/2 P(2X > 1) > 0. Hence X+Y is neither a non-degenerate normal nor a degenerate (constant) normal. QED.\n\nRemarks. (X, Y) is not jointly (bivariate) normal. If it were, every linear combination, including X+Y, would be normal. X and Y are uncorrelated, since E[XY] = E[S] E[X^2] = 0, yet they are dependent, because |X| = |Y|. So this also illustrates that uncorrelated normal marginals do not imply independence.\n\n## Numerical illustration (not a proof)\n`out/analysis.py` draws n = 100000 pairs from this construction with numpy.random.default_rng(20261029). It writes them to `out/counterexample.csv` and summarises them in `out/results.json`:\n* the marginals x and y agree with N(0,1) (small KS distances);\n* about half of the x+y values are exactly 0;\n* the KS distance between x+y and its fitted normal is about 0.25. This matches the theoretical value of 1/2 * (jump of 1/2 at 0).\nEOF\necho \"- 2026-10-30 P1 passed (audit, no exclusions); P2 baseline = Prop B independent-sum KS check; P3 analysis.py written; P4 Proposition B says the same when X and Y are also independent. For each proposition the question is whether it is true or false. A true proposition needs a proof sketch; a false one needs a concrete, simulated counterexample. The full argument is in `out/argument.md`.\n\n## Data and exclusions\n- `data/propositions.csv`: 2 rows. `data/design.csv`: 2 rows, giving seed 20261029 and n = 100000 (`n_input_rows`, `random_seed`, `counterexample_values.n`).\n- No data issues were found (`data_issues` = []). The SHA-256 hashes match the bundle (see `out/state/data_audit.md`).\n- Nothing was excluded (`out/exclusions.csv`). The analysed sample is the full simulated sample, n = 100000 (`n_analysed`).\n\n## Method\n- **The verdicts come from the mathematics, not the simulation.**\n - B is proved with characteristic functions: under independence they multiply, and the product of two normal characteristic functions is again a normal characteristic function.\n - A is refuted with this construction: X ~ N(0,1), S an independent random sign (±1 with probability 1/2 each), and Y = S·X (`counterexample_values.construction`). Y ~ N(0,1) because N(0,1) is symmetric. X+Y = (1+S)X equals 0 with probability 1/2 and 2X otherwise. That law has an atom at 0, which no non-degenerate normal has, and it is not constant (variance 2). So X+Y is not normal.\n- **Numerical illustration.** `out/analysis.py` draws n pairs with `numpy.random.default_rng(seed)` and writes them to `out/counterexample.csv`.\n - It reports sample means and SDs (ddof = 1) of x, y and x+y.\n - It reports the KS distance between x+y and the normal with the same sample mean and SD.\n - Supplementary checks are under `numerical_checks`. One of them is a baseline for B: a separate stream of independent N(0,1) pairs, seeded with [seed, 1], whose sum is compared with N(0,2).\n\n## Results\n- **Proposition A is false** (`statement_true` = false). A concrete counterexample is provided (`counterexample_provided` = true).\n- **Proposition B is true** (`statement_b_true` = true).\n- **Simulated counterexample (n = 100000, seed 20261029):**\n - Marginals: mean_x = -0.0033, sd_x = 0.9982, mean_y = -0.0002, sd_y = 0.9982 (`counterexample_values.mean_x`, `.sd_x`, `.mean_y`, `.sd_y`). These match N(0,1).\n - KS distances of the marginals from their fitted normals are 0.0021 (x) and 0.0020 (y) (`numerical_checks.ks_x_vs_fitted_normal`, `numerical_checks.ks_y_vs_fitted_normal`).\n - KS p-values against N(0,1) are 0.40 (x) and 0.95 (y) (`numerical_checks.ks_x_vs_N01_pvalue`, `numerical_checks.ks_y_vs_N01_pvalue`).\n - Sum: mean_sum = -0.0036 and sd_sum = 1.4059 (`counterexample_values.mean_sum`, `.sd_sum`); the theoretical SD is √2 ≈ 1.414 (`numerical_checks.theoretical_sd_sum`).\n - The share of sums exactly equal to 0 is 0.50047 (`numerical_checks.frac_sum_exactly_zero`), against a theoretical 0.5.\n - The KS distance of the sum from its fitted normal is 0.2508 (`counterexample_values.ks_sum_vs_normal`). That is about 120 times the distance for the marginals, and close to the theoretical value of about 0.25 (half of the jump of 1/2 at 0). Its p-value is 0.0 to machine precision (`numerical_checks.ks_sum_vs_fitted_normal_pvalue`).\n- **Baseline for B:** the sum of independent normals is at KS distance 0.0024 from N(0,2), p = 0.62 (`numerical_checks.propB_ks_sum_independent_vs_N02`, `numerical_checks.propB_ks_pvalue`). This is consistent with B.\n- **Feasibility:** complete (`feasibility`).\n\n## Uncertainty\n- The truth values are proved, so they carry no statistical uncertainty.\n- The simulated statistics do have Monte Carlo error. With n = 100000 the standard error of a sample mean is about 0.003 for x and 0.0045 for x+y, so the observed means are within about 1 SE of 0.\n- A 95% KS critical value at this n is about 0.0043. The marginal distances fall below it; the sum's distance (`counterexample_values.ks_sum_vs_normal`) is about 58 times larger.\n- When the normal's parameters are estimated from the data, the standard KS p-values are conservative (Lilliefors issue). That cannot change the conclusion for a distance of 0.25.\n\n## Limitations and open issues\n- **What the illustration shows:** with the prescribed seed and n, the sampled marginals look like N(0,1), while the sum has a point mass of about one half at 0 and is far from any normal.\n- **What it does not show:** it does not prove that the marginals are exactly normal, that the sum is non-normal, or that B holds. A finite sample cannot establish a distributional identity. Those facts rest on the arguments in `out/argument.md`.\n- KS p-values with estimated parameters are only approximate.\n- Many other counterexamples exist; for example, Y = X when |X| ≤ c and Y = −X otherwise. The random-sign construction was chosen because its departure from normality (an atom of mass 1/2) is obvious at any sample size.\n- No open issues remain.\nEOF\ncat > out/claims.json <<'EOF'\n[\n {\"id\":\"C1\",\"text\":\"Proposition A is false: normal marginals do not imply X+Y is normal.\",\"results_keys\":[\"statement_true\"],\"status\":\"supported\",\"caveat\":\"Supported by the mathematical counterexample in argument.md; simulation is illustrative only.\"},\n {\"id\":\"C2\",\"text\":\"A concrete counterexample is X ~ N(0,1), S an independent random sign, Y = S X; Y ~ N(0,1) but X+Y has an atom of mass 1/2 at 0 and variance 2.\",\"results_keys\":[\"counterexample_provided\",\"counterexample_values\"],\"status\":\"supported\",\"caveat\":\"(X,Y) is not jointly normal.\"},\n {\"id\":\"C3\",\"text\":\"In the simulated sample (n=100000, seed 20261029) the marginals are consistent with N(0,1) while x+y is far from normal (KS distance 0.2508, about half of sums exactly 0).\",\"results_keys\":[\"counterexample_values\",\"numerical_checks\",\"n_analysed\",\"random_seed\"],\"status\":\"supported\",\"caveat\":\"Numerical illustration only; KS p-values with estimated parameters are approximate.\"},\n {\"id\":\"C4\",\"text\":\"Proposition B is true: the sum of independent normals is normal with added means and variances.\",\"results_keys\":[\"statement_b_true\",\"numerical_checks\"],\"status\":\"supported\",\"caveat\":\"Proof via characteristic functions; simulated baseline (KS 0.0024 vs N(0,2)) is only a consistency check.\"}\n]\nEOF\necho \"- 2026-10-30 P4 gate run (only P5-pending failures, reproducibility ok). With n = 100000 the standard error of a sample mean is about 0.003 for x and 0.0045 for x+y, so the observed means are within about 1 SE of 0.\n- A 95% KS critical value at this n is about 0.0043. The marginal distances fall below it; the sum's distance (`counterexample_values.ks_sum_vs_normal`) is about 58 times larger.\n- When the normal's parameters are estimated from the data, the standard KS p-values are conservative (Lilliefors issue). That cannot change the conclusion for a distance of 0.25.\n\n## Limitations and open issues\n- **What the illustration shows:** with the prescribed seed and n, the sampled marginals look like N(0,1), while the sum has a point mass of about one half at 0 and is far from any normal.\n- **What it does not show:** it does not prove that the marginals are exactly normal, that the sum is non-normal, or that B holds. A finite sample cannot establish a distributional identity. Those facts rest on the arguments in `out/argument.md`.\n- KS p-values with estimated parameters are only approximate.\n- Many other counterexamples exist; for example, Y = X when |X| ≤ c and Y = −X otherwise. The random-sign construction was chosen because its departure from normality (an atom of mass 1/2) is obvious at any sample size.\n- No open issues remain.\nEOF\ncat > out/claims.json <<'EOF'\n[\n {\"id\":\"C1\",\"text\":\"Proposition A is false: normal marginals do not imply X+Y is normal.\",\"results_keys\":[\"statement_true\"],\"status\":\"supported\",\"caveat\":\"Supported by the mathematical counterexample in argument.md; simulation is illustrative only.\"},\n {\"id\":\"C2\",\"text\":\"A concrete counterexample is X ~ N(0,1), S an independent random sign, Y = S X; Y ~ N(0,1) but X+Y has an atom of mass 1/2 at 0 and variance 2.\",\"results_keys\":[\"counterexample_provided\",\"counterexample_values\"],\"status\":\"supported\",\"caveat\":\"(X,Y) is not jointly normal.\"},\n {\"id\":\"C3\",\"text\":\"In the simulated sample (n=100000, seed 20261029) the marginals are consistent with N(0,1) while x+y is far from normal (KS distance 0.2508, about half of sums exactly 0).\",\"results_keys\":[\"counterexample_values\",\"numerical_checks\",\"n_analysed\",\"random_seed\"],\"status\":\"supported\",\"caveat\":\"Numerical illustration only; KS p-values with estimated parameters are approximate.\"},\n {\"id\":\"C4\",\"text\":\"Proposition B is true: the sum of independent normals is normal with added means and variances.\",\"results_keys\":[\"statement_b_true\",\"numerical_checks\"],\"status\":\"supported\",\"caveat\":\"Proof via characteristic functions; simulated baseline (KS 0.0024 vs N(0,2)) is only a consistency check.\"}\n]\nEOF\necho \"- 2026-10-30 P4 gate run (only P5-pending failures, reproducibility ok). Proposition B is true. The latest gate run passed all 27 checks, and re-running `out/analysis.py` from scratch gives exactly the same results.\n\n**Verdicts**\n- **A (false):** take X from a standard normal distribution, N(0,1), and a random sign S (+1 or −1 with equal chance) independent of X. Set Y = S·X.\n - Y is also N(0,1), because the normal curve is symmetric.\n - X+Y equals 0 half the time and 2X the other half. That puts a lump of probability ½ at 0, which no non-constant normal can have, and X+Y isn't constant either (its variance is 2). So X+Y isn't normal, not even in the degenerate sense.\n - The pair (X, Y) is not jointly normal, which is why the usual \"sums of normals are normal\" rule doesn't apply.\n- **B (true):** under independence the characteristic functions multiply, and the product is itself a normal characteristic function. So X+Y is normal with the means added and the variances added. The full proof is in `argument.md`.\n\n**Simulation** (seed 20261029, n = 100,000, as set in `data/design.csv`):\n\n| | Mean | SD | Distance from a fitted normal (Kolmogorov–Smirnov) |\n|---|---|---|---|\n| x | −0.0033 | 0.998 | 0.0021 |\n| y | −0.0002 | 0.998 | 0.0020 |\n| x+y | −0.0036 | 1.406 (theory √2 ≈ 1.414) | 0.251 (theory about 0.25) |\n\n- Of the sums, 50.05% are exactly 0, against ½ in theory.\n- As a check on B, a separate sample of independent normal pairs gives a sum at distance 0.0024 from the matching normal, which is what B predicts.\n\nThe simulation only illustrates the verdicts; the proofs in `argument.md` are what establish them. The report says this explicitly. There were no data issues and nothing was excluded.\n\nThe first gate run, at the end of P4, failed only because the report and claims files didn't exist yet.\n\nFiles are in `out/`:\n- `results.json`\n- `counterexample.csv`\n- `argument.md`\n- `report.md`\n- `claims.json`\n- `analysis.py`\n- `exclusions.csv`\n- `state/` (contract, data audit, checks, log, phase ledger, gate receipts)"}],"container":null,"stop_reason":"end_turn","stop_sequence":null,"stop_details":null,"usage":{"input_tokens":2,"cache_creation_input_tokens":456,"cache_read_input_tokens":20654,"output_tokens":849,"output_tokens_details":{"thinking_tokens":34},"server_tool_use":{"web_search_requests":0,"web_fetch_requests":0},"service_tier":"standard","cache_creation":{"ephemeral_1h_input_tokens":0,"ephemeral_5m_input_tokens":456},"inference_geo":"global","iterations":[],"speed":"standard","fallback_credit":null},"input_transformations":[],"diagnostics":null,"context_management":null},"apiBlockIndex":1,"requestId":"req_011CgXpxV4gHUnU6F4m4UVDJ","requestRef":"51506371-4283-4942-bb6b-c0b52adeb42f","requestedModel":"claude-opus-5-5","type":"assistant","uuid":"f62419b0-f0db-465f-af69-0753c95bfc8c","timestamp":"2026-10-30T04:56:44.897Z","effort":"medium","perTurnEffort":"medium","userType":"external","entrypoint":"sdk-cli","cwd":"/Users/simon-pierreboucher/wp29/runs/RC0189","sessionId":"ac488c0b-d709-4e18-a20b-37f2bdff5e21","version":"2.1.314","gitBranch":"HEAD"} {"type":"last-prompt","lastPrompt":"Begin","leafUuid":"f62419b0-f0db-465f-af69-0753c95bfc8c","sessionId":"ac488c0b-d709-4e18-a20b-37f2bdff5e21"} {"type":"cost-state","sessionId":"ac488c0b-d709-4e18-a20b-37f2bdff5e21","totalCostUSD":0.3820494,"totalAPIDuration":118491,"totalAPIDurationWithoutRetries":118484,"totalToolDuration":4172,"totalLinesAdded":0,"totalLinesRemoved":0,"totalDuration":122829,"startTime":1793336082075,"modelUsage":{"claude-opus-5-5":{"inputTokens":24,"outputTokens":12985,"thinkingTokens":1097,"cacheReadInputTokens":121117,"cacheCreationInputTokens":19606,"cacheCreationEphemeral5mInputTokens":19606,"cacheCreationEphemeral1hInputTokens":0,"webSearchRequests":0,"costUSD":0.3820494}},"hasUnknownModelCost":false}
