Taxonomy and governance
Two levels: 8 disciplines → 66 leaf categories (content/categories.json). Tools attach to leaf categories only; exactly one is primary (breadcrumb, "More in…" block), others may carry an explanatory label (e.g. DuckDB → High-frequency financial analysis — "Common engine for Parquet tick/bar archives").

Tags and use cases
Free but normalized vocabularies (tags.kind = tag | use_case), kebab-case. Tags are nouns (vector-search), use cases are verb phrases (analyze-intraday-data). Both are searchable at weight B and filterable (/tools?tag=…, /tools?use=…). Admin → Tools lists counts; merge synonyms by editing records (there is no separate tag table UI by design: tags are derived from records).
Governance
- Adding a leaf: edit
content/categories.json, document it here, runpnpm content:import. Removing a leaf requires moving its tools first (FK is RESTRICT). - Keep leaves broad enough to hold ≥ 5 tools; prefer labels over new leaves for nuance.
- Known tension (from the content audit): full-text search engines (Meilisearch, Typesense, Elasticsearch) sit under vector-databases; ORMs under web-frameworks; object storage under backup-recovery. Candidate leaves for the next revision:
search-engines,orm-data-access,object-storage. - The taxonomy owner is the site editor; changes are recorded in the audit log through imports.
