BaseModel classes, dataclass support, TypeAdapter for arbitrary types, field and model validators, strict and lax modes, JSON Schema generation and settings management (pydantic-settings) make it the common schema layer of modern Python: FastAPI derives request validation and OpenAPI documents from Pydantic models, the OpenAI and Anthropic SDKs and frameworks such as Pydantic AI, LangChain and Instructor use models to define structured outputs and tool arguments, and configuration files, API payloads and dataset records are routinely parsed through it.\n\nThe company Pydantic Services develops the library and sells Logfire, an observability platform, alongside the open-source Pydantic AI agent framework. Version 2 rewrote the core and changed some APIs from version 1, which still affects older code. Pydantic validates individual records rather than whole DataFrames, so tabular validation belongs to Pandera or Great Expectations, and heavy validation of very large collections can dominate runtime despite the Rust core.",99 "capabilities": [100 "Type-hint driven models with validation and coercion",101 "Strict and lax modes, custom validators and serializers",102 "JSON Schema generation and JSON serialization",103 "TypeAdapter for validating arbitrary types",104 "pydantic-settings for environment-based configuration",105 "Rust core (pydantic-core) for performance"106 ],107 "categories": [108 {109 "slug": "data-quality",110 "primary": true111 },112 {113 "slug": "api-development"114 }115 ],116 "execution_modes": [117 "local"118 ],119 "interfaces": [120 "library"121 ],122 "source_model": "open-source",123 "license_spdx": "MIT",124 "pricing_model": [125 "open-source",126 "free"127 ],128 "sources": [129 {130 "url": "https://pydantic.dev/",131 "type": "official_site",132 "supports": [133 "name",134 "summary",135 "vendor"136 ],137 "checked_at": "2026-11-02",138 "title": "Pydantic"139 },140 {141 "url": "https://docs.pydantic.dev/latest/",142 "type": "official_docs",143 "supports": [144 "capabilities",145 "integrations"146 ],147 "checked_at": "2026-11-02",148 "title": "Pydantic Validation documentation",149 "note": "Redirects to pydantic.dev/docs/validation/latest/"150 },151 {152 "url": "https://github.com/pydantic/pydantic/blob/main/LICENSE",153 "type": "license_page",154 "supports": [155 "license_spdx",156 "source_model"157 ],158 "checked_at": "2026-11-02",159 "title": "Pydantic LICENSE (MIT)"160 },161 {162 "url": "https://github.com/pydantic/pydantic",163 "type": "repository",164 "supports": [165 "repo_url"166 ],167 "checked_at": "2026-11-02",168 "title": "pydantic/pydantic"169 }170 ],171 "confidence": "high"172}173
