We develop a search model that shows that the strong procyclicality of internal movement is driven by the cost of simultaneously holding two homes, which varies endogenously over the cycle. The estimated model shows that frictions related to this joint buyer–seller problem substantially amplify cyclical price volatility in housing markets.
",53 "DOI": "10.1111/iere.12454",54 "type": "journal-article",55 "created": {56 "date-parts": [57 [58 2020,59 3,60 2061 ]62 ],63 "date-time": "2020-03-20T14:35:05Z",64 "timestamp": 158471490500065 },66 "page": "1195-1228",67 "update-policy": "https://doi.org/10.1002/crossmark_policy",68 "source": "Crossref",69 "is-referenced-by-count": 57,70 "title": [71 "ENDOGENOUS SOURCES OF VOLATILITY IN HOUSING MARKETS: THE JOINT BUYER–SELLER PROBLEM"72 ],73 "prefix": "10.1111",74 "volume": "61",75 "author": [76 {77 "given": "Elliot",78 "family": "Anenberg",79 "sequence": "first",80 "affiliation": [81 {82 "name": "Federal Reserve Board Washington D.C.
