Using aggregate time\u2013series data, we find a strong relationship in Britain between the two variables, but the relationship changed during the 1990s. Transactions became much lower. We suggest that structural changes in macroeconomic relationships are increasingly likely to occur in a world of greater inequality and our results are one symptom. We argue that macroeconomic estimation needs to be complemented by careful microeconomic analysis. The second study, also appearing in this issue, therefore examines the microeconomic aspects of the issue.</jats:p>",51 "DOI": "10.1111/j.1080-8620.2003.00059.x",52 "type": "journal-article",53 "created": {54 "date-parts": [55 [56 2004,57 1,58 1959 ]60 ],61 "date-time": "2004-01-19T10:11:27Z",62 "timestamp": 107450708700063 },64 "page": "99-116",65 "source": "Crossref",66 "is-referenced-by-count": 72,67 "title": [68 "House Price Appreciation, Transactions and Structural Change in the British Housing Market: A Macroeconomic Perspective"69 ],70 "prefix": "10.1111",71 "volume": "31",72 "author": [73 {74 "given": "Mark",75 "family": "Andrew",76 "sequence": "first",77 "affiliation": [],78 "role": [79 {80 "vocabulary": "crossref",81 "role": "author"82 }83 ]84 },85 {86 "given": "Geoffrey",87 "family": "Meen",88 "sequence": "additional",89 "affiliation": [],90 "role": [91 {92 "vocabulary": "crossref",93 "role": "author"94 }95 ]96 }97 ],98 "member": "311",99 "published-online": {100 "date-parts": [101 [102 2008,103 6,104 28105 ]106 ]107 },108 "container-title": [109 "Real Estate Economics"110 ],111 "language": "en",112 "link": [113 {114 "URL": "https://api.wiley.com/onlinelibrary/tdm/v1/articles/10.1111%2Fj.1080-8620.2003.00059.x",115 "content-type": "unspecified",116 "content-version": "vor",117 "intended-application": "text-mining"118 },119 {120 "URL": "https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1111/j.1080-8620.2003.00059.x",121 "content-type": "application/pdf",122 "content-version": "vor",123 "intended-application": "text-mining"124 },125 {126 "URL": "https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1111/j.1080-8620.2003.00059.x",127 "content-type": "unspecified",128 "content-version": "vor",129 "intended-application": "similarity-checking"130 }131 ],132 "deposited": {133 "date-parts": [134 [135 2023,136 9,137 11138 ]139 ],140 "date-time": "2023-09-11T11:15:58Z",141 "timestamp": 1694430958000142 },143 "score": 119.45901,144 "resource": {145 "primary": {146 "URL": "https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1080-8620.2003.00059.x"147 }148 },149 "issued": {150 "date-parts": [151 [152 2003,153 3154 ]155 ]156 },157 "references-count": 0,158 "journal-issue": {159 "issue": "1",160 "published-print": {161 "date-parts": [162 [163 2003,164 3165 ]166 ]167 }168 },169 "alternative-id": [170 "10.1111/j.1080-8620.2003.00059.x"171 ],172 "URL": "https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1080-8620.2003.00059.x",173 "archive": [174 "Portico"175 ],176 "ISSN": [177 "1080-8620",178 "1540-6229"179 ],180 "issn-type": [181 {182 "value": "1080-8620",183 "type": "print"184 },185 {186 "value": "1540-6229",187 "type": "electronic"188 }189 ],190 "published": {191 "date-parts": [192 [193 2003,194 3195 ]196 ]197 }198}
