Once purely the domain of specialists, increased availability of both spatial data and the software with which to handle them, spatial analysis techniques are diffusing into other areas of research. This article first details the rationale and need for spatial considerations in hedonic price models and focuses on the link between the context of the housing market and the statistical considerations necessary when dealing with spatial data. These issues are then explored via an application to the housing market of Cuyahoga County, Ohio. It was found, first, that explicit modeling of space is not always warranted. One of our two models shows no substantial signs of spatial misspecification. However, in the second model, where diagnostic tests call for the explicit modeling of space, some drastic differences were found between the space\u2010neglected model and the more correctly specified spatial hedonic model. This highlights the need to include spatial diagnostics as part of the standard model\u2010fitting procedure for hedonic house price applications.</jats:p>",57 "DOI": "10.1111/0017-4815.00171",58 "type": "journal-article",59 "created": {60 "date-parts": [61 [62 2003,63 3,64 1165 ]66 ],67 "date-time": "2003-03-11T22:37:48Z",68 "timestamp": 104742226800069 },70 "page": "466-490",71 "update-policy": "https://doi.org/10.1002/crossmark_policy",72 "source": "Crossref",73 "is-referenced-by-count": 82,74 "title": [75 "Theoretical and Empirical Considerations Regarding Space in Hedonic Housing Price Model Applications"76 ],77 "prefix": "10.1111",78 "volume": "32",79 "author": [80 {81 "given": "William M.",82 "family": "Bowen",83 "sequence": "first",84 "affiliation": [],85 "role": [86 {87 "vocabulary": "crossref",88 "role": "author"89 }90 ]91 },92 {93 "given": "Brian A.",94 "family": "Mikelbank",95 "sequence": "additional",96 "affiliation": [],97 "role": [98 {99 "vocabulary": "crossref",100 "role": "author"101 }102 ]103 },104 {105 "given": "Dean M.",106 "family": "Prestegaard",107 "sequence": "additional",108 "affiliation": [],109 "role": [110 {111 "vocabulary": "crossref",112 "role": "author"113 }114 ]115 }116 ],117 "member": "311",118 "published-online": {119 "date-parts": [120 [121 2002,122 12,123 17124 ]125 ]126 },127 "container-title": [128 "Growth and Change"129 ],130 "original-title": [],131 "language": "en",132 "link": [133 {134 "URL": "https://api.wiley.com/onlinelibrary/tdm/v1/articles/10.1111%2F0017-4815.00171",135 "content-type": "unspecified",136 "content-version": "vor",137 "intended-application": "text-mining"138 },139 {140 "URL": "https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1111/0017-4815.00171",141 "content-type": "application/pdf",142 "content-version": "vor",143 "intended-application": "text-mining"144 },145 {146 "URL": "https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1111/0017-4815.00171",147 "content-type": "unspecified",148 "content-version": "vor",149 "intended-application": "similarity-checking"150 }151 ],152 "deposited": {153 "date-parts": [154 [155 2023,156 9,157 11158 ]159 ],160 "date-time": "2023-09-11T04:36:13Z",161 "timestamp": 1694406973000162 },163 "score": 1,164 "resource": {165 "primary": {166 "URL": "https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/0017-4815.00171"167 }168 },169 "subtitle": [],170 "short-title": [],171 "issued": {172 "date-parts": [173 [174 2001,175 1176 ]177 ]178 },179 "references-count": 0,180 "journal-issue": {181 "issue": "4",182 "published-print": {183 "date-parts": [184 [185 2001,186 1187 ]188 ]189 }190 },191 "alternative-id": [192 "10.1111/0017-4815.00171"193 ],194 "URL": "https://doi.org/10.1111/0017-4815.00171",195 "archive": [196 "Portico"197 ],198 "relation": {},199 "ISSN": [200 "0017-4815",201 "1468-2257"202 ],203 "issn-type": [204 {205 "value": "0017-4815",206 "type": "print"207 },208 {209 "value": "1468-2257",210 "type": "electronic"211 }212 ],213 "subject": [],214 "published": {215 "date-parts": [216 [217 2001,218 1219 ]220 ]221 },222 "assertion": [223 {224 "value": "2002-12-17",225 "order": 2,226 "name": "published",227 "label": "Published",228 "group": {229 "name": "publication_history",230 "label": "Publication History"231 }232 }233 ]234 }235}
