The Bellman equation is V(y) = max_{0<c<y} { ln c + β V((y − c)^α) }. This model has a known closed-form solution for the optimal consumption policy c(y) and the value function V(y). The estimands are: the closed-form policy at three evaluation points of y; the policy obtained by value-function iteration (VFI) on the prescribed grid at the same points; the maximum absolute discrepancy between them over the evaluation points; the closed-form and numerical value function at y = 1; the savings rate implied by the closed form; and the contraction modulus of the Bellman operator in the sup norm.\n\n## Inputs\n- `data/model.csv` — columns `parameter`, `value`, `description`: `alpha`, `beta`, the grid specification (`y_min`, `y_max`, `grid_points`, `grid_spacing` = log, i.e. points equally spaced in ln y), the VFI stopping tolerance `vfi_tolerance` (sup-norm change between successive value functions), and the three evaluation points `eval_y_1`, `eval_y_2`, `eval_y_3`. Theoretical parameters, not observed data.\n\n## Information-availability rules\n- Use only `data/model.csv` and solve the model on the prescribed grid with the prescribed parameters; if any deviation from the prescribed design is necessary, record it in `data_issues`.\n- The numerical policy must come from the VFI, not from the closed form; the closed form must be derived (e.g. guess-and-verify on the Bellman equation) and stated in the report.\n\n## Required outputs\n- `out/results.json` with the keys:\n\n| key | type | unit | meaning |\n|---|---|---|---|\n| `task_id` | string | — | \"F5-conf-04\" |\n| `c_closed_y05`, `c_closed_y1`, `c_closed_y2` | number | units of output | closed-form optimal consumption at y = 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 |\n| `c_num_y05`, `c_num_y1`, `c_num_y2` | number | units of output | VFI consumption policy at y = 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 (interpolated on the grid if the point is not a grid node) |\n| `max_abs_error_policy` | number | units of output | max over the three evaluation points of \\|c_num − c_closed\\| |\n| `value_closed_y1` | number | utils | closed-form V(1) |\n| `value_num_y1` | number | utils | VFI value function at y = 1 |\n| `savings_rate_closed_form` | number | — | closed-form (y − c)/y (the baseline quantity) |\n| `contraction_modulus` | number | — | modulus of the Bellman operator as a contraction in the sup norm |\n| `grid_points_used` | integer | — | number of grid points actually used |\n| `n_iterations` | integer | — | VFI iterations until the stopping rule was met |\n| `final_sup_change` | number | utils | sup-norm change at the last iteration |\n| `feasibility` | string | — | \"complete\", \"partial\" or \"infeasible\" |\n| `feasibility_reason` | string or null | — | explanation if not complete |\n| `data_issues` | array of {\"issue\",\"handling\"} | — | data problems or design deviations and how handled (empty list if none) |\n| `n_input_rows` | object | — | {\"model.csv\": rows read} |\n| `n_analysed` | integer or null | — | number of grid points |\n| `random_seed` | integer or null | — | seed used, if any |\n\n- `out/report.md` with the sections: Question; Data and exclusions; Method; Results; Uncertainty; Limitations and open issues. State explicitly the assumptions of the closed form (log utility, Cobb–Douglas technology, full depreciation, interior solution), why the Bellman operator is a contraction and with what modulus, and the scope of the numerical validation (which grid, which parameter point, what the discretisation error depends on).\n- `out/analysis.py` — running `~/wp29/venv/bin/python out/analysis.py` from the workspace root must regenerate `out/results.json` from `data/` only, deterministically.\n- `out/claims.json` — a list of the central claims of the report: [{\"id\": \"C1\", \"text\": \"...\", \"results_keys\": [\"...\"], \"status\": \"supported\"|\"unsupported\"|\"not_evaluated\", \"caveat\": \"...\"}]. Each claim's status must be justified by the listed results keys.\n\n## Constraints\n- No network access. Python: `~/wp29/venv/bin/python` (numpy, pandas, scipy, statsmodels available). Do not modify `data/`.\n- This task is designed to be completed in well under 20 minutes of work; the VFI on the prescribed grid runs in seconds when vectorised.\ntotal 56\ndrwxr-xr-x  9 simon-pierreboucher  staff   288 oct.  30 00:39 .\ndrwxr-xr-x  7 simon-pierreboucher  staff   224 oct.  30 00:38 ..\n-rw-r--r--  1 simon-pierreboucher  staff  4672 oct.  30 00:38 analysis.py\n-rw-r--r--  1 simon-pierreboucher  staff  1612 oct.  30 00:39 claims.json\n-rw-r--r--  1 simon-pierreboucher  staff   169 oct.  30 00:38 exclusions.csv\n-rw-r--r--  1 simon-pierreboucher  staff  5269 oct.  30 00:39 report.md\n-rw-r--r--  1 simon-pierreboucher  staff  1116 oct.  30 00:38 results.json\ndrwxr-xr-x  2 simon-pierreboucher  staff    64 oct.  30 00:39 review\ndrwxr-xr-x  8 simon-pierreboucher  staff   256 oct.  30 00:39 state\n{\n  \"task_id\": \"F5-conf-04\",\n  \"c_closed_y05\": 0.329,\n  \"c_closed_y1\": 0.658,\n  \"c_closed_y2\": 1.316,\n  \"c_num_y05\": 0.32881774872035086,\n  \"c_num_y1\": 0.6589935200017671,\n  \"c_num_y2\": 1.309625047452993,\n  \"max_abs_error_policy\": 0.006374952547007151,\n  \"value_closed_y1\": -19.524412221722393,\n  \"value_num_y1\": -19.52475624982261,\n  \"savings_rate_closed_form\": 0.34199999999999997,\n  \"contraction_modulus\": 0.95,\n  \"grid_points_used\": 400,\n  \"n_iterations\": 361,\n  \"final_sup_change\": 9.996650618404601e-09,\n  \"feasibility\": \"complete\",\n  \"feasibility_reason\": null,\n  \"data_issues\": [],\n  \"n_input_rows\": {\n    \"model.csv\": 10\n  },\n  \"n_analysed\": 400,\n  \"random_seed\": null,\n  \"diagnostics\": {\n    \"grid_step_log_y\": 0.011541779914757022,\n    \"eval_points_on_grid_nodes\": [\n      false,\n      false,\n      false\n    ],\n    \"policy_grid_bound_hits\": 0,\n    \"max_abs_policy_error_all_nodes\": 0.02512152290513381,\n    \"max_abs_value_error_all_nodes\": 0.0004835155258184898,\n    \"initial_guess\": \"V0 = 0\",\n    \"choice_variable\": \"next-period output y' restricted to grid\",\n    \"interpolation\": \"linear in ln y\"\n  }\n}[\n {\"id\":\"C1\",\"text\":\"Closed-form policy is c(y)=(1-alpha*beta)y, giving c=0.329, 0.658, 1.316 at y=0.5,1,2 and savings rate alpha*beta=0.342.\",\"results_keys\":[\"c_closed_y05\",\"c_closed_y1\",\"c_closed_y2\",\"savings_rate_closed_form\"],\"status\":\"supported\",\"caveat\":\"Requires log utility, Cobb-Douglas technology, full depreciation, interior solution.\"},\n {\"id\":\"C2\",\"text\":\"VFI on the prescribed 400-point log grid converged in 361 iterations with final sup change below 1e-8.\",\"results_keys\":[\"n_iterations\",\"final_sup_change\",\"grid_points_used\",\"feasibility\"],\"status\":\"supported\",\"caveat\":\"Starting guess V0=0.\"},\n {\"id\":\"C3\",\"text\":\"VFI policy matches the closed form to within 0.0064 units of output (below 0.5% relative) at the three evaluation points.\",\"results_keys\":[\"c_num_y05\",\"c_num_y1\",\"c_num_y2\",\"max_abs_error_policy\"],\"status\":\"supported\",\"caveat\":\"Discrete choice on grid nodes plus linear-in-ln y interpolation; error depends on grid step.\"},\n {\"id\":\"C4\",\"text\":\"VFI value at y=1 (-19.52476) matches the closed form (-19.52441) to about 3.4e-4 utils, a gap dominated by discretisation rather than iteration error.\",\"results_keys\":[\"value_num_y1\",\"value_closed_y1\",\"contraction_modulus\",\"final_sup_change\"],\"status\":\"supported\",\"caveat\":\"Iteration error bound beta*tol/(1-beta)=1.9e-7.\"},\n {\"id\":\"C5\",\"text\":\"The Bellman operator is a sup-norm contraction with modulus beta=0.95 (Blackwell conditions on the bounded discretised problem).\",\"results_keys\":[\"contraction_modulus\"],\"status\":\"supported\",\"caveat\":\"Continuous log-utility problem is unbounded; argument applies on compact state space.\"}\n]","is_error":false}]},"uuid":"7e483dd3-cf24-4ccf-9255-0ec77080705f","timestamp":"2026-10-30T04:39:41.310Z","toolUseResult":{"stdout":"# F5-conf-04 — Value-function iteration against a closed-form policy (optimal growth with log utility)\n\n## Scientific question\nA planner maximises Σ_t β^t ln c_t subject to y_{t+1} = (y_t − c_t)^α, 0 < c_t < y_t, with full depreciation and productivity normalised to one. Theoretical parameters, not observed data.\n\n## Information-availability rules\n- Use only `data/model.csv` and solve the model on the prescribed grid with the prescribed parameters; if any deviation from the prescribed design is necessary, record it in `data_issues`.\n- The numerical policy must come from the VFI, not from the closed form; the closed form must be derived (e.g. guess-and-verify on the Bellman equation) and stated in the report.\n\n## Required outputs\n- `out/results.json` with the keys:\n\n| key | type | unit | meaning |\n|---|---|---|---|\n| `task_id` | string | — | \"F5-conf-04\" |\n| `c_closed_y05`, `c_closed_y1`, `c_closed_y2` | number | units of output | closed-form optimal consumption at y = 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 |\n| `c_num_y05`, `c_num_y1`, `c_num_y2` | number | units of output | VFI consumption policy at y = 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 (interpolated on the grid if the point is not a grid node) |\n| `max_abs_error_policy` | number | units of output | max over the three evaluation points of \\|c_num − c_closed\\| |\n| `value_closed_y1` | number | utils | closed-form V(1) |\n| `value_num_y1` | number | utils | VFI value function at y = 1 |\n| `savings_rate_closed_form` | number | — | closed-form (y − c)/y (the baseline quantity) |\n| `contraction_modulus` | number | — | modulus of the Bellman operator as a contraction in the sup norm |\n| `grid_points_used` | integer | — | number of grid points actually used |\n| `n_iterations` | integer | — | VFI iterations until the stopping rule was met |\n| `final_sup_change` | number | utils | sup-norm change at the last iteration |\n| `feasibility` | string | — | \"complete\", \"partial\" or \"infeasible\" |\n| `feasibility_reason` | string or null | — | explanation if not complete |\n| `data_issues` | array of {\"issue\",\"handling\"} | — | data problems or design deviations and how handled (empty list if none) |\n| `n_input_rows` | object | — | {\"model.csv\": rows read} |\n| `n_analysed` | integer or null | — | number of grid points |\n| `random_seed` | integer or null | — | seed used, if any |\n\n- `out/report.md` with the sections: Question; Data and exclusions; Method; Results; Uncertainty; Limitations and open issues. State explicitly the assumptions of the closed form (log utility, Cobb–Douglas technology, full depreciation, interior solution), why the Bellman operator is a contraction and with what modulus, and the scope of the numerical validation (which grid, which parameter point, what the discretisation error depends on).\n- `out/analysis.py` — running `~/wp29/venv/bin/python out/analysis.py` from the workspace root must regenerate `out/results.json` from `data/` only, deterministically.\n- `out/claims.json` — a list of the central claims of the report: [{\"id\": \"C1\", \"text\": \"...\", \"results_keys\": [\"...\"], \"status\": \"supported\"|\"unsupported\"|\"not_evaluated\", \"caveat\": \"...\"}]. Each claim's status must be justified by the listed results keys.\n\n## Constraints\n- No network access. Python: `~/wp29/venv/bin/python` (numpy, pandas, scipy, statsmodels available). Do not modify `data/`.\n- This task is designed to be completed in well under 20 minutes of work; the VFI on the prescribed grid runs in seconds when vectorised.\ntotal 56\ndrwxr-xr-x  9 simon-pierreboucher  staff   288 oct.  30 00:39 .\ndrwxr-xr-x  7 simon-pierreboucher  staff   224 oct.  30 00:38 ..\n-rw-r--r--  1 simon-pierreboucher  staff  4672 oct.  30 00:38 analysis.py\n-rw-r--r--  1 simon-pierreboucher  staff  1612 oct.  30 00:39 claims.json\n-rw-r--r--  1 simon-pierreboucher  staff   169 oct.  30 00:38 exclusions.csv\n-rw-r--r--  1 simon-pierreboucher  staff  5269 oct.  30 00:39 report.md\n-rw-r--r--  1 simon-pierreboucher  staff  1116 oct.  30 00:38 results.json\ndrwxr-xr-x  2 simon-pierreboucher  staff    64 oct.  30 00:39 review\ndrwxr-xr-x  8 simon-pierreboucher  staff   256 oct.  30 00:39 state\n{\n  \"task_id\": \"F5-conf-04\",\n  \"c_closed_y05\": 0.329,\n  \"c_closed_y1\": 0.658,\n  \"c_closed_y2\": 1.316,\n  \"c_num_y05\": 0.32881774872035086,\n  \"c_num_y1\": 0.6589935200017671,\n  \"c_num_y2\": 1.309625047452993,\n  \"max_abs_error_policy\": 0.006374952547007151,\n  \"value_closed_y1\": -19.524412221722393,\n  \"value_num_y1\": -19.52475624982261,\n  \"savings_rate_closed_form\": 0.34199999999999997,\n  \"contraction_modulus\": 0.95,\n  \"grid_points_used\": 400,\n  \"n_iterations\": 361,\n  \"final_sup_change\": 9.996650618404601e-09,\n  \"feasibility\": \"complete\",\n  \"feasibility_reason\": null,\n  \"data_issues\": [],\n  \"n_input_rows\": {\n    \"model.csv\": 10\n  },\n  \"n_analysed\": 400,\n  \"random_seed\": null,\n  \"diagnostics\": {\n    \"grid_step_log_y\": 0.011541779914757022,\n    \"eval_points_on_grid_nodes\": [\n      false,\n      false,\n      false\n    ],\n    \"policy_grid_bound_hits\": 0,\n    \"max_abs_policy_error_all_nodes\": 0.02512152290513381,\n    \"max_abs_value_error_all_nodes\": 0.0004835155258184898,\n    \"initial_guess\": \"V0 = 0\",\n    \"choice_variable\": \"next-period output y' restricted to grid\",\n    \"interpolation\": \"linear in ln y\"\n  }\n}[\n {\"id\":\"C1\",\"text\":\"Closed-form policy is c(y)=(1-alpha*beta)y, giving c=0.329, 0.658, 1.316 at y=0.5,1,2 and savings rate alpha*beta=0.342.\",\"results_keys\":[\"c_closed_y05\",\"c_closed_y1\",\"c_closed_y2\",\"savings_rate_closed_form\"],\"status\":\"supported\",\"caveat\":\"Requires log utility, Cobb-Douglas technology, full depreciation, interior solution.\"},\n {\"id\":\"C2\",\"text\":\"VFI on the prescribed 400-point log grid converged in 361 iterations with final sup change below 1e-8.\",\"results_keys\":[\"n_iterations\",\"final_sup_change\",\"grid_points_used\",\"feasibility\"],\"status\":\"supported\",\"caveat\":\"Starting guess V0=0.\"},\n {\"id\":\"C3\",\"text\":\"VFI policy matches the closed form to within 0.0064 units of output (below 0.5% relative) at the three evaluation points.\",\"results_keys\":[\"c_num_y05\",\"c_num_y1\",\"c_num_y2\",\"max_abs_error_policy\"],\"status\":\"supported\",\"caveat\":\"Discrete choice on grid nodes plus linear-in-ln y interpolation; No rows were\nexcluded (`out/exclusions.csv`); all 400 grid points were analysed (`grid_points_used`, `n_analysed`). No deviations\nfrom the prescribed design were needed (`data_issues` = []). None of the evaluation points is a grid node, so the VFI\npolicy and value are interpolated (linearly in ln y), as TASK.md allows. Audit details: `out/state/data_audit.md`.\n\n## Method\n**Closed form (guess-and-verify).** Guess V(y) = A + B ln y. The RHS of the Bellman equation is\nln c + β[A + Bα ln(y − c)]. The FOC 1/c = αβB/(y − c) gives c = y/(1 + αβB). Matching coefficients on ln y:\nB = 1 + αβB ⇒ B = 1/(1 − αβ), so c(y) = (1 − αβ) y and the savings rate is (y − c)/y = αβ. Matching constants:\nA = [ln(1 − αβ) + (αβ/(1 − αβ)) ln(αβ)] / (1 − β). The verification holds exactly; we also checked numerically that\na continuous optimiser applied to the Bellman RHS with this V returns c = (1 − αβ)y and TV = V (`out/state/checks.md`).\nAssumptions: log utility, Cobb–Douglas technology y' = k^α with 0<α<1, full depreciation, productivity normalised to 1,\ninterior solution (0 < c < y, guaranteed by the Inada property of ln and of k^α), 0<β<1, and the transversality condition\n(satisfied since V is A + B ln y with finite A, B and log output is stationary).\n\n**Contraction.** On the compact grid, with feasible choices and bounded utilities, the Bellman operator T satisfies\nBlackwell's sufficient conditions: monotonicity (V ≤ W ⇒ TV ≤ TW) and discounting (T(V + a) = TV + βa). Hence T is a\ncontraction in the sup norm with modulus β = 0.95 (`contraction_modulus`). (On the unbounded continuous domain ln c is\nunbounded; there the result is obtained on the restricted/compact state space or with weighted norms — the discretised\nproblem is bounded, which is what we iterate on.)\n\n**VFI.** Grid: 400 points equally spaced in ln y on [0.05, 5]. The choice variable is next-period output y' restricted\nto the grid; consumption is c = y − y'^{1/α}, and pairs with c ≤ 0 are infeasible (utility −∞). Start V0 = 0; iterate\nV_{n+1}(y_i) = max_j {ln c_ij + β V_n(y_j)} until sup|V_{n+1} − V_n| < 1e-8. The policy is the argmax at the final V.\nThe closed form is never used inside the VFI. No randomness (`random_seed` = null). Code: `out/analysis.py`.\n\n## Results\nThe baseline (closed form) gives a savings rate αβ = 0.342 (`savings_rate_closed_form`).\n\n| y | closed form c | VFI c | \n|---|---|---|\n| 0.5 | 0.329 (`c_closed_y05`) | 0.328818 (`c_num_y05`) |\n| 1.0 | 0.658 (`c_closed_y1`) | 0.658994 (`c_num_y1`) |\n| 2.0 | 1.316 (`c_closed_y2`) | 1.309625 (`c_num_y2`) |\n\n- Maximum absolute policy discrepancy over the three points: 0.00637 at y = 2 (`max_abs_error_policy`), i.e. below 0.5%\n  of consumption at each point.\n- V(1): closed form −19.52441 (`value_closed_y1`), VFI −19.52476 (`value_num_y1`); gap ≈ 3.4e-4 utils.\n- VFI converged in 361 iterations (`n_iterations`) with final sup-norm change 1.0e-8 < 1e-8 tolerance\n  (`final_sup_change`); `feasibility` = \"complete\".\n- Diagnostic (in `results.json` → `diagnostics`): no grid node chooses a boundary y'; across all 400 nodes the max policy\n  error is 0.025 (at large y, where c ≈ 3.3) and the max value error 4.8e-4.\n\n## Uncertainty\nThe problem is deterministic; there is no sampling uncertainty. Numerical error has two sources:\n(i) iteration error, bounded by β·tol/(1 − β) = 1.9e-7 utils in V (from `contraction_modulus` and the 1e-8 tolerance);\n(ii) discretisation/interpolation error: y' is restricted to a grid with ln-step 0.0115, so the required investment\ny'^{1/α} jumps by ≈ 3.2% per step, which bounds the consumption error to a fraction of a percent of y — consistent with\nthe observed relative errors (−0.06%, +0.15%, −0.48%). The V(1) gap (3.4e-4) far exceeds bound (i), so it is\ndiscretisation error. Errors shrink as the grid is refined (smaller ln-step), not by tightening the tolerance.\n\n## Limitations and open issues\n- Validation scope: a single parameter point (α = 0.36, β = 0.95), one grid (400 log-spaced points on [0.05, 5]), one\n  tolerance, discrete choice over grid nodes with linear-in-ln y interpolation at off-grid points. We derive the\nclosed-form policy and value function, solve the same problem by value-function iteration (VFI) on the prescribed grid,\nand compare them at y = 0.5, 1, 2 and (for the value) at y = 1. Parameters from `data/model.csv`: α = 0.36, β = 0.95.\n\n## Data and exclusions\n`data/model.csv` (10 rows, `n_input_rows`; SHA-256 0981239614…6195b) holds theoretical parameters only. No rows were\nexcluded (`out/exclusions.csv`); all 400 grid points were analysed (`grid_points_used`, `n_analysed`). No deviations\nfrom the prescribed design were needed (`data_issues` = []). None of the evaluation points is a grid node, so the VFI\npolicy and value are interpolated (linearly in ln y), as TASK.md allows. Audit details: `out/state/data_audit.md`.\n\n## Method\n**Closed form (guess-and-verify).** Guess V(y) = A + B ln y. The RHS of the Bellman equation is\nln c + β[A + Bα ln(y − c)]. The FOC 1/c = αβB/(y − c) gives c = y/(1 + αβB). Matching coefficients on ln y:\nB = 1 + αβB ⇒ B = 1/(1 − αβ), so c(y) = (1 − αβ) y and the savings rate is (y − c)/y = αβ. Matching constants:\nA = [ln(1 − αβ) + (αβ/(1 − αβ)) ln(αβ)] / (1 − β). The verification holds exactly; we also checked numerically that\na continuous optimiser applied to the Bellman RHS with this V returns c = (1 − αβ)y and TV = V (`out/state/checks.md`).\nAssumptions: log utility, Cobb–Douglas technology y' = k^α with 0<α<1, full depreciation, productivity normalised to 1,\ninterior solution (0 < c < y, guaranteed by the Inada property of ln and of k^α), 0<β<1, and the transversality condition\n(satisfied since V is A + B ln y with finite A, B and log output is stationary).\n\n**Contraction.** On the compact grid, with feasible choices and bounded utilities, the Bellman operator T satisfies\nBlackwell's sufficient conditions: monotonicity (V ≤ W ⇒ TV ≤ TW) and discounting (T(V + a) = TV + βa). Hence T is a\ncontraction in the sup norm with modulus β = 0.95 (`contraction_modulus`). (On the unbounded continuous domain ln c is\nunbounded; there the result is obtained on the restricted/compact state space or with weighted norms — the discretised\nproblem is bounded, which is what we iterate on.)\n\n**VFI.** Grid: 400 points equally spaced in ln y on [0.05, 5]. The choice variable is next-period output y' restricted\nto the grid; consumption is c = y − y'^{1/α}, and pairs with c ≤ 0 are infeasible (utility −∞). Start V0 = 0; iterate\nV_{n+1}(y_i) = max_j {ln c_ij + β V_n(y_j)} until sup|V_{n+1} − V_n| < 1e-8. The policy is the argmax at the final V.\nThe closed form is never used inside the VFI. No randomness (`random_seed` = null). Code: `out/analysis.py`.\n\n## Results\nThe baseline (closed form) gives a savings rate αβ = 0.342 (`savings_rate_closed_form`).\n\n| y | closed form c | VFI c | \n|---|---|---|\n| 0.5 | 0.329 (`c_closed_y05`) | 0.328818 (`c_num_y05`) |\n| 1.0 | 0.658 (`c_closed_y1`) | 0.658994 (`c_num_y1`) |\n| 2.0 | 1.316 (`c_closed_y2`) | 1.309625 (`c_num_y2`) |\n\n- Maximum absolute policy discrepancy over the three points: 0.00637 at y = 2 (`max_abs_error_policy`), i.e. below 0.5%\n  of consumption at each point.\n- V(1): closed form −19.52441 (`value_closed_y1`), VFI −19.52476 (`value_num_y1`); gap ≈ 3.4e-4 utils.\n- VFI converged in 361 iterations (`n_iterations`) with final sup-norm change 1.0e-8 < 1e-8 tolerance\n  (`final_sup_change`); `feasibility` = \"complete\".\n- Diagnostic (in `results.json` → `diagnostics`): no grid node chooses a boundary y'; across all 400 nodes the max policy\n  error is 0.025 (at large y, where c ≈ 3.3) and the max value error 4.8e-4.\n\n## Uncertainty\nThe problem is deterministic; there is no sampling uncertainty. Numerical error has two sources:\n(i) iteration error, bounded by β·tol/(1 − β) = 1.9e-7 utils in V (from `contraction_modulus` and the 1e-8 tolerance);\n(ii) discretisation/interpolation error: y' is restricted to a grid with ln-step 0.0115, so the required investment\ny'^{1/α} jumps by ≈ 3.2% per step, which bounds the consumption error to a fraction of a percent of y — consistent with\nthe observed relative errors (−0.06%, +0.15%, −0.48%). The V(1) gap (3.4e-4) far exceeds bound (i), so it is\ndiscretisation error. Errors shrink as the grid is refined (smaller ln-step), not by tightening the tolerance.\n\n## Limitations and open issues\n- Validation scope: a single parameter point (α = 0.36, β = 0.95), one grid (400 log-spaced points on [0.05, 5]), one\n  tolerance, discrete choice over grid nodes with linear-in-ln y interpolation at off-grid points. Other interpolation\n  schemes (e.g. continuous choice with interpolated V) would give different (typically smaller) discrepancies; we did not\n  run grid-refinement studies because the task does not require them.\n- The policy error is not monotone in y; it reflects where the evaluation point falls relative to grid nodes.\n- The contraction argument applies to the bounded discretised problem; the continuous log-utility problem is unbounded\n  and needs the standard restricted-domain argument.\nstep,rule,n_before,n_after,n_removed,rationale\n0,none (all parameter rows used; all 400 grid points Only minor wording issues remain.\"\n}\nEOF\n~/wp29/venv/bin/python -m json.tool out/review/review.json >/dev/null && echo ok"}}]}}35{"type":"api-request","sessionId":"a130abc1-31b8-40ba-9dd6-ae4700b0f055","id":"e7ab1251-1f8f-4a6f-8402-7526cb02778b","timestamp":"2026-10-30T04:40:05.614Z","version":"2.1.314","querySource":"sdk","shapeHash":"4c7157425c0c10590c3243bcc12579913e91a003a65ac9cc52fe341394c23ce3","params":{"model":"claude-opus-5-5","betas":["claude-code-20250219","interleaved-thinking-2025-05-14","context-management-2025-06-27","prompt-caching-scope-2026-01-05","per-turn-control-2026-07-01","thinking-token-count-2026-05-13","mid-conversation-system-clear-at-2026-08-21","effort-2025-11-24","thinking-binding-controls-2026-08-01","thinking-display-updates-2026-08-18","cache-diagnosis-2026-04-07"],"max_tokens":128000,"thinking":{"type":"adaptive","display":"updates"},"context_management":{"edits":[{"type":"clear_thinking_20251015","keep":"all"}]},"output_config":{"effort":"medium"}},"base":"2ea14e6d-af3d-4884-a2a5-17d34d848412","keep":8,"tail":["ca279c817a22f4db71a57a7a4ce9da3e4441caf2ad76278f0bf486518ff040bb","764a5bd9241f949d592629bb1f93b21c6da68446bdfb9ab7e7670c4b8569942b"],"cacheControl":[{"path":["system",0],"value":{"type":"ephemeral"}},{"path":["system",1],"value":{"type":"ephemeral"}},{"path":["messages",9,"content",0],"value":{"type":"ephemeral"}}],"requestDigest":"6c5830dec0c481b0b74f6a716ec1cbf1d1bd9ea386f52e6307ced7c378e0a154"}36{"type":"last-prompt","lastPrompt":"Review","leafUuid":"fb841190-7802-4883-a59a-8fa4cade3e4b","sessionId":"a130abc1-31b8-40ba-9dd6-ae4700b0f055"}37{"type":"atis-latch","atis":"","sessionId":"a130abc1-31b8-40ba-9dd6-ae4700b0f055"}38{"parentUuid":"fb841190-7802-4883-a59a-8fa4cade3e4b","isSidechain":false,"message":{"model":"claude-opus-5-5","id":"msg_011CgXohWXTAQ97KexkJpZ1P","type":"message","role":"assistant","content":[{"type":"text","text":"My verdict is **accept**: I found no critical or major problems, only three minor wording issues. The review is saved in `out/review/review.json`.\n\n**Reproduction:** I re-ran `out/analysis.py` on a scratch copy and it produced exactly the same `results.json`, with every required key present.\n\n**Rules check:** The code reads only `data/model.csv` and solves the model on the prescribed grid (400 points, equally spaced in ln y, from 0.05 to 5), with the 1e-8 stopping tolerance and α=0.36, β=0.95. The numerical policy comes from the iteration itself; the closed form is only used afterwards for comparison.\n\n**Numbers I verified:**\n- **Closed form:** c = (1−αβ)y, a savings rate of 0.342, and V(1) = −19.5244. The report derives this by guess-and-verify and states its assumptions.\n- **Contraction:** the modulus β = 0.95 is correct.\n- **Iteration error:** the bound of 1.9e-7 follows correctly from β and the tolerance.\n- **Policy errors:** the relative errors at the three points are −0.06%, +0.15% and −0.48%, as reported.\n- **Grid bounds:** the policy never runs into the edge of the grid.\n- **Data hash:** the SHA-256 quoted in the report matches the data file.\n\n**Minor issues:**\n1. **Convergence wording:** the report says the final change of \"1.0e-8 < 1e-8 tolerance\", which reads as a contradiction because of rounding. The actual value is 9.997e-09, so the stopping rule was met.\n2. **Error \"bound\":** the explanation of discretisation error calls a rough order-of-magnitude argument a \"bound\". It also leaves out the error from linearly interpolating a policy that changes in steps.\n3. **Claim C3:** the \"<0.5%\" agreement only just holds (0.484% at y=2). The caveat should mention that the largest error across all grid nodes is 0.025.\n\nThe report is honest about its limits: it covers one parameter point and one grid, and notes that the contraction argument applies to the bounded discretised problem."}],"container":null,"stop_reason":"end_turn","stop_sequence":null,"stop_details":null,"usage":{"input_tokens":2,"cache_creation_input_tokens":998,"cache_read_input_tokens":12545,"output_tokens":709,"output_tokens_details":{"thinking_tokens":0},"server_tool_use":{"web_search_requests":0,"web_fetch_requests":0},"service_tier":"standard","cache_creation":{"ephemeral_1h_input_tokens":0,"ephemeral_5m_input_tokens":998},"inference_geo":"global","iterations":[],"speed":"standard","fallback_credit":null},"input_transformations":[],"diagnostics":null,"context_management":null},"apiBlockIndex":0,"requestId":"req_011CgXohW3gJBKCjP4NU9MYj","requestRef":"e7ab1251-1f8f-4a6f-8402-7526cb02778b","requestedModel":"claude-opus-5-5","type":"assistant","uuid":"8045a7ce-81ce-45f7-b829-af96a0ede914","timestamp":"2026-10-30T04:40:12.098Z","effort":"medium","perTurnEffort":"medium","userType":"external","entrypoint":"sdk-cli","cwd":"/Users/simon-pierreboucher/wp29/runs/RC0129","sessionId":"a130abc1-31b8-40ba-9dd6-ae4700b0f055","version":"2.1.314","gitBranch":"HEAD"}39{"type":"last-prompt","lastPrompt":"Review","leafUuid":"8045a7ce-81ce-45f7-b829-af96a0ede914","sessionId":"a130abc1-31b8-40ba-9dd6-ae4700b0f055"}40{"type":"cost-state","sessionId":"a130abc1-31b8-40ba-9dd6-ae4700b0f055","totalCostUSD":0.1308386,"totalAPIDuration":32550,"totalAPIDurationWithoutRetries":32545,"totalToolDuration":661,"totalLinesAdded":0,"totalLinesRemoved":0,"totalDuration":33333,"startTime":1793335178773,"modelUsage":{"claude-opus-5-5":{"inputTokens":12,"outputTokens":3195,"thinkingTokens":1103,"cacheReadInputTokens":33478,"cacheCreationInputTokens":12039,"cacheCreationEphemeral5mInputTokens":12039,"cacheCreationEphemeral1hInputTokens":0,"webSearchRequests":0,"costUSD":0.1308386}},"hasUnknownModelCost":false}41
